For the first time in 22 years the Boston Celtics are the NBA Champions. They beat the Los Angeles Lakers 131-92 to clinch the series by 4 games to 2 and lift the Larry O'Brien Trophy. This marks their 17th championship and marks the ninth time in eleven meetings that they have beaten the Lakers in the NBA Finals. This was the 62nd finals series and Boston and LA between them have won 31 of them.
Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett all clicked at the right time and Rajon Rondo had the kind of game he probably couldn't even have dreamt of. He ended the night with 8 assists, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 21 points. Allen and Garnett both had 26 points each and Pierce had 17 points. Kendrick Perkins had a rather quiet night; possibly nursing his shoulder injury, but players like Leon Powe, Eddie House, P.J. Brown and James Posey all contributed off the bench.
