September 19th sees the release of a new album from Queen.
However, it's a live double cd of their Monday May 9th 2005, Sheffield, show and not actually a new studio album; featuring Paul Rodgers, of Free and Bad Company fame, on vocals. And I was lucky enough to get my hands on an Advance version of it.
The sound mixing is excellent and they sound superb. Obviously, it's not the same as Freddie on lead, but Paul Rodgers does a more than admirable job, and plays to his strengths and limits, never once attempting to reach the heights that Freddie could reach. As a result, it sounds a fair bit different from other Queen live recordings, but it works really well.
They do an excellent mixed-down version of Hammer To Fall that starts off really, really slow before picking up halfway through. Even Bohemian Rhapsody sounds good.
They're releasing a DVD of the concert in late October and I shall be purchasing that. I was sorely tempted to go and see them in the summer but ended up going to see Rammstein again. Kinda wished I'd gone to see Queen now.
