Bought myself a couple of new Sony DWD-22A 16x Dual Layer DVD writers, which have replaced my old Plextor drives. They seem fast enough doing CDs although I haven't done any DVDs yet; I haven't even got any 16x media to test them with.

Oh, and replaced my UPS which still wasn't working. Bought myself an APC Smart-UPS 1000 for £51 including delivery, off eBay.
If you really want either 16x or dual-layer media, then rambox.co.uk have them in stock at what are considered competitive prices. Competitive currently means nearly £2 PER DISC for 16x DVD+R media, and nearly £4 per disc for dual-layer (2.4x).
Personally I think paying £2 for each 16x disc just to save a few minutes is money wasted. And unless you really need to make an exact copy of an 8.5GB DVD, paying £4 for the disc and waiting three-quarters of an hour for it to burn is a bit much.
Prices for both types of disc should fall quite quickly though.
You're not the only one. I've got some reasonably priced 8x DVD+ media and am quite happy using them until prices drop considerably on the 16x media.
