Sporting disaster? No, tragic state of civilised society!

I've just finished planning my Ratkin game for the 24 hour charity roleplaying event this weekend. We're raising money for the local maternity ward and to help a former club member raise funds to do a sponsored walk up Mt Kilimanjaro for Scope.

Anyway, rather than sit and do the work in silence I decided to have the TV on in the background. Anyway, it was set to Reality TV and the programme was called Sporting Disasters.

They showed a sequence where 3 or 4 matadors were gored by bulls, suggesting that the matador's getting injured was a disaster. I was sat there thinking, no it's not a disaster, it's really, really what they deserve. I personally think Bullfighting is an horrible spectacle and really deserves no place in civilised society. The fact that the bull has been tormented for ages before the matador enters the ring is never really highlighted.

Bullfighting isn't the only "sport" I dislike, but it's the one that gets most coverage internationally. Cock fighting, Dog fighting, Fox hunting; the list goes on...

Why do so-called civilised people still insist on causing such cruelty to animals? Sometimes you have to look at the calendar and wonder if it really does read 2004.
