I was coming out of Distington after dropping Paul off when the car slid sideways around the corner and hit the kerb. Was hard enough to crack the Alloy. No other damage though. Damn!

Distington... checks Autoroute... hmm, according to this its between Whitehaven and Workington, and unless I'm very much mistaken temperatures haven't dropped below freezing in Cumbria yet so there couldn't have been ice on the road. I don't suppose you've been playing lots of Burnout 3 recently, have you? ;)
Its good to hear it was only the car that was slightly damaged and not you, cars are easier to repair than people.
Actually more to it than that; road was extremely wet and I had just shimmied, for want of a better word to avoid hitting summat; possibly a dog..
Oh, and got quoted almost 200GBP to get a replacement wheel fitted.
Next time I'll hit the damned thing...

Got the wheel and tyre replaced this morning; cost £75 total; much better than the figure I was quoted by Ford themselves...
