With broadband just around the corner I decided to add a new hard drive to my system. After looking around I settled on the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 6Y160M0, a 160gb SATA drive, from Overclockers, which was just a shade over 100GBP including delivery. At least that way I'll have plenty of storage space for anything that I might download.
I had read that some drives above the old 137gb limit would only be recognised as 137gb by XP, and to get the extra space you would have to use extra software. Anyway, I just went ahead, installed and hooked up the drive. Booted in to XP, initialized and then formatted the drive. No problems at all; although I was prepared to download the software if needed, it's only a relatively small download from Maxtor.
My next purchase the the PC is an ADSL router so that I can have my Barton and my laptop connected upstaird, set up a spare PC for my Dad's use downstairs, and leave a port free for my PS2, when I get round to getting the broadband kit for that.
