Manchester United 4 - 3 Real Madrid

Normally a result like this would fill me with joy, but not tonight.

The Red Devils needed to beat Real Madrid 2-0 or by 3 clear goals to progress to the semi-final stage of the Champions League and as can be seen they didn't.

If they hadn't sat back in awe of Real in the first leg, which they lost 3-1 in the Bernabeau, it could have been a totally different end result.

Obviously as a life-long fan of Manchester United I'm hugely disappointed that they have gone out, but truth be told the better team won. As for where Manchester United go from here, the question has to be asked about their defence. Whereas they have good individual defenders their problem appears to be an inability to work as a cohesive unit and the inexperience of those players, who seem to give possession away far too many times for my liking. Of course, given time they will gel and these instances will reduce, but in the interim the risk is always there.

Anyway, the Champions League has passed United by, but at least they are still in pole position for the domestic league title; the question is how do they respond to this setback?
